The Mexican Tennis Open, named Abierto Mexicano de Tennis (AMT), was the first successful tournament in Mexico since 1993. After 28 editions the AMT is one of the most prestigious tennis events in the world and the most important in Latin America. AMT is an ATP World Tour 500 and from 1993-2020 had the participation of the WAT (Women’s Tennis Association). It began as a tournament to warm up Mexican talents and was hosted in Mexico City until 2000, since 2001 is being held in Acapulco.
Acapulco is the perfect match for this kind of events, its year-round privileged weather, people hospitality and tourist sites offers great variety of activities for tennis lovers and companions, which makes it an attractive spot for both Mexican and international visitors.
In 2021 the tournament was held from March 15-20, with a 30% of its maximum capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions. This 2022 the event will be held from February 21-26 honored by the participation of the 5 best tennis players in the world: Daniil Medvedev (n.2), Alexander Zverev (n.3), Stefanos Tsitsipas (n.4), Rafael Nadal (n.5) and Matteo Berrettini (n.6), four of them semifinalist at Australian Open at the beginning of this year. It will be Rafael Nadal who opens the AMT new headquarters located in the heart of Riviera Diamante 5 minutes away from the former one. AMT is currently sponsored by HSBC and Telcel at its new headquarters GNP Seguros Arena by Mundo Imperial, the Arena has a main stadium that holds more than 10 thousand guests and five secondary courts,
This year’s edition AMT is implementing the «Safety Pass» as a health measure due to Covid-19, All visitors will present an antigens test, made within the previous 72 hours of their access to the GNP Seguros Arena. An untransferable bracelet will be given to those with a negative result to enter.
